Over the weekend while taking a break from coursework, I decided to browse Netflix. And stumbled upon Eat Pray Love. I read the book a couple of years ago and to be honest, I hated it. The author’s divorce dragged on and frankly, I just wasn’t into it. But the movie- completely different story. It was as though they took the few great moments from the book and slapped it into the film with Julia Roberts (a favorite of mine). It was as though I was meant to see this film that weekend to help me with everything thats going on in my life this week.
Here are a couple of my favorite parts that I’d like to share:
As Julia’s character Liz was in Naples enjoying the best pizza ever, she glanced over at her friend on the other side of the table who wasn’t eating. She asked her why and the friend’s response was, I’ve gained weight. Liz shrugged it off and continued with…
“Let me ask you something, in all the years that you have…undressed in front of a gentleman has he ever asked you to leave? Has he ever walked out and left? No? It’s because he doesn’t care! He’s in a room with a naked girl, he just won the lottery. I am so tired of saying no, waking up in the morning and recalling every single thing I ate the day before, counting every calorie I consumed so I know just how much self loathing to take into the shower. I’m going for it. I have no interest in being obese, I’m just through with the guilt. So this is what I’m going to do, I’m going to finish this pizza, and then we are going to go watch the soccer game, and tomorrow we are going to go on a little date and buy ourselves some bigger jeans.”

A true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then leave.
A soul mate’s purpose is to shake you up, tear apart your ego a little bit, show you your obstacles and addictions, break your heart open so new light can get in, make you so desperate and out of control that you have to transform your life, then introduce you to your spiritual master…”
I’ll leave you with this random photograph I took this morning. It was the best I could do spur of the moment, but if you look close enough, I saw Santa on my way into work. White hair, full beard and even a red jacket. Really, when I smiled as I passed, he knew that I knew his secret.
