As many of you know, I’m roughly six weeks back into running and haven’t been as consistent as originally anticipated. But with the warmer weather and a new runner partner, I’ve been hitting the streets at least twice a week before work. Well, today was my first race of the season- and boy (and girls) it was a good one! I set a PR of 28:02 for today’s Bust a Move 5k! (that’s a 9:02 pace if you’re keeping tabs!)
Mile one went by quickly- 8:45- and I mentioned to Phil that I should slow down because I didn’t want to crash within the next mile. Then once turning onto 2nd street, my shoe lace on my left foot came undone and I had to stop to quickly lace up. And then my keys came loose and began to jingle with each step. I know I slowed down a little in fear that I would lose them but once I could see Washington Park, I picked up Phil’s pace to finish strong. No joke, I thought I was going to pee my pants at the finish line. Note to self: pee prior to running.
But overall, it was a great run. Fast course, local, beautiful weather and did I mention my first PR! Yes, I’m still beaming. And am looking forward to races this summer- if anyone knows of a 10k prior to my trip to China, please fill me in ASAP. I’d love to work my milage up to that distance– gives me something to work toward.
After the race, I showed Phil around downtown and we hit up the Farmer’s Market. I got some local honey (great for my allergies and baked grapefruit) and a loaf of french bread. Yummy! The afternoon was lazy, consisting of a whopping bowl of veggie soup and Dexter curled up on Laura’s couch. I can’t wait to snuggle in for the night; I know I’ll sleep well while my legs recover. But before I sleep, I’ll share with you a photograph of the dinner I “splurged” on, just because. Baked asparagus with lemon juice and salmon stuffed with crab meat. So. Delicious. It would have been perfect with some basmati rice, but I was out and in no mood to wait for brown rice to cook. It was rich and filling and just what my hard-working body deserved!
Oh yeah, and some sparkling pink french wine/vodka called Nuvo. My mom picked it up for me- I can only have a small glass because it’s 15% alcohol! Gotta get it in now before the six week cleanse begins.
Have you set any PRs this season or have any fun races coming up in the near future?
