This weekend was jam-packed with a ton of activities. Let me give you a little breakdown:
Friday: I knew it was going to be a great night when my friend started off the evening with the phrase “I have a secret.” That line took me back to Chicago when I had first heard it from a different friend- and surely the night ended up very similarly. I hung out at her place for a couple hours- celebrating her parents’ anniversary– something that I will elaborate on in another post for a very wonderful reason. After a few drinks we were ready to try-out the new country bar in town. That too was jam-packed! but with people enjoying the awesome local band that had the whole place on their feet. I will definitely be returning in the near future: not for the service but the music. Of course the night could not have ended without a slice from Ilove!
Saturday: My package had arrived! Friday afternoon at work I had purchased a new camera for myself; nothing to expensive but loaded with fun!
It is a 35mm with a built in fisheye– no guesswork, just aim and shoot! A couple fellow bloggers that I follow each use this camera and I figured why not give it a try? I bought a few different types of film to try out and if all goes well, I’ll hopefully be able to take some unique photographs for an event that I have coming up in August. The only thing I’m not use to: having to wait to see the photographs. But I guess that adds a great element of surprise when the roll has been completed.
Unfortunately, Saturday I got a call informing me that my grandfather had fallen off of a ladder and brought to Albany Medical Center. Fortunately, he was admitted into surgery Sunday morning and is a fighter; because after a broken hip, a few fractured vertebrae, a few broken ribs and staples in the back of his head, he was wide awake and his normal self after recovering from surgery. I’m going to force myself to go through my China photographs and organize them so that I can go visit him later this week to keep his mind off of things. My family postponed Father’s Day for now; maybe this weekend we’ll take my dad out for a few drinks and appetizers.
Sunday: Was time spent in the hospital, a trip to the market, and a little bit of cleaning/homework. And a long run that kicked my butt! This long run of eight miles wrapped up week three of my marathon training and this was the most difficult run for me, both mentally and physically. But I got it done and I’m proud of myself for various reasons. Number one: I did it. I hate running by myself and the fact that I’m out there doing it alone is super. Number two: I was in some pain. I know, I know. There is such a thing as good pain and bad pain and this was definitely bad pain. My calf was extremely tight and tempted me to turn around after mile one. But I told myself- would I quit a marathon after one mile if this were to happen? Or would I at least give it my all to finish? So, I sucked it up and ran. And told myself not to have an eleven minute mile. I defeated those eight miles!
Speaking of steps, the pedometer challenge is something fierce! I did NOT think it would be taken to this level and I think my team member and I are going to have to step things up over the next week to keep ourselves in the top five teams (we are guessing our position at this point). I got this really neat new app for my iPhone and she helped me test it out in the office:
Yeah, she’s a pretty kick-ass partner. And I think we need to re-evaluate our commitment and kick-it up a notch! Because that iPod nano touch will work perfectly during my marathon training.
Well, it’s back to work on a little homework. My summer class is wrapping up in a week, which means I will have the remainder of the summer off. I should start making a list of what I’d like to do now. I hope you all had a wonderful Monday– I know I sure did! This weather is fantastic!
