The other night as I was tossing veggies into the soup pot, I commented on how fresh we’ve been eating. I can only count two trips to the market this past month or so: binging on fries/beers and grabbing coconut milk. Oh, and stopping at the health food store for some sesame sticks and nuts for my hike. Other than that, all fresh ingredients from the share.
This was my Friday:
A fresh glass of homemade grape juice (I typically only drink water throughout the day).
A baked pear (no sugar added- just cinnamon) and some steel-cut oats, fabulous.
Bowl of veggie lentil soup, topped with sprouts. Hunk of fresh bread to dunk = heaven.
Because the beau and I haven’t had a date night in a couple of weeks AND it was the first ever restaurant week in Troy, we decided to have a late dinner at Bacchus. Never a disappointment.
We started off with the artichoke and spinach dip. It typically has shrimp in it but we opted out. My new reason when I got out to eat to ensure that they aren’t sneaking in fish/fish sauce: I’m allergic to seafood. Whatever works, right?
And now for the week’s special: an 8″personal margherita pizza with a glass of wine (or beer). Simple and so fresh. I saved half for this morning’s breakfast.
I must add that I had a handful of whole almonds mid-morning for a little snack and avoided what could have been a big problem while at Target. Well see, I was walking to the Halloween section (I dream of decorating for each season) and saw the chip aisle. Then the candy isle. And ended up choosing cheese sticks because hello, I love a good jalapeno cheese stick. Then something funny happened at Trader Joe’s when I was picking up a few staples (cookie butter, sunflowers and frozen blueberries): I saw some yummy chip-like treats and walked away. My thought process: 1. the beau would love those for his lunches 2. I don’t want to feed him processed crap! And walked away. I was happy to have been present during that thought process and to have walked away not feeling deprived. That’s when I returned to my car for a second and third cheese stick. Damn you, cheese!
