Reading: I’m finally getting around to reading the Adirondack Peak Experiences: Mountaineering Adventures, Misadventures, and the Pursuit of “The 46” by Carol Stone White. It was given to me as a gift about a year ago and right before I moved, I found it and thought now was the perfect time. I love reading the first-hand experiences of the hikes; not only of the ones I’ve done, but of the mountains to come. I’m also learning a lot; about overnights, bear canisters, weather predictions and equipment I may want to invest in. It’s keeping me focused on the 27 that I still need to complete.
Watching: The beau has got me hooked on yet another series, House of Cards. I have to give it to Netflix, I love the fact that they give you the whole season instead of episode to episode. Not going to lie, I don’t understand all of the politic mumbo-jumbo that’s discussed and I’m also not going to lie about the fact that I have a new girl crush, Claire Underwood (played by Robin Wright). Ummm her body is ah-mazingly fit and I love the short hair. So far we’re only on episode five- no spoiling it for me!
Loving: The weather and my new walk to work. It’s a little longer than it use to be but it’s a change of scenery. Because of the longer distance, I’ve been bringing my lunch each day to work and trying to workout during that hour. I love how I’ve motivated everyone in my office to “compete” in a 4% challenge for the next month; happiness loves company!
Wondering: Why does the second floor bathroom at work smell like chocolate?
Looking forward to: Date night this Thursday! The beau and I have been so busy lately that we haven’t scheduled one of these in a while. What you may not know about the two of us is that we both love Ryan Gosling. There, I said it. So, this Thursday we got tickets to see the premiere showing of “The Place Beyond the Pines,” and it has been hinted that maybe both Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling will show up. I’m keeping my fingers crossed but I’m also excited about the wine and fries served at the theater.
Thinking about: My next hike coming up in two weeks. A coworker and I are planning to go again on Earth Day and I’m going to do a little more reading/investigating after yesterday’s adventure (more on that to come) so that hopefully we’ll reach four peaks that day. If successful, we’ll each be at least half way done with the ADK 46 highest peaks. I’m also planning on running the Corporate Challenge 2013 and have already thought about spreading the word to get as many coworkers out there as possible. This is one of my favorite races each year because of the amount of people who participate in the Capital Region. This race isn’t about PR’ing; it’s about running a good race and celebrating with a cold beverage afterward with good friends.
Eating: Obsessed with my green salad for lunch. I know I’ve mentioned it before but I could eat it three times a day and not get sick of it: spring mix, power of the greens mix (baby kale, spinach and chard), chickpeas, avocado, raw red cabbage, raw red pepper, vegan parmesan cheese (nutritional yeast, walnuts and panko bread crumbs whirled together) and a homemade spicy balsamic vinegar dressing. I am also in love with peach salsa, cuties (because cuties are for kids) and cinnamon raisin Ezekiel toast.
Planning: A mini vacation with the beau! We both don’t have the money to go anywhere exotic or take off a lot of time, so we are planning a small trip this fall to Canada. I’ve only been once when I was a girl scout, and would love the opportunity to drive across the state during one of my favorite months to end up in Canada. Why the fall? Well, it’s difficult as a business owner to get away and the beau’s sister is due in June; we don’t want to miss out on seeing the newest addition first! We found THE coolest hotel to stay in and can’t wait to explore a new city for a few days.
